Man and Van Eltham Modern Slavery Statement

This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Man and Van Eltham in recognition of our responsibilities under relevant modern slavery and human trafficking legislation. It outlines the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains.

Our zero-tolerance approach

Man and Van Eltham has a clear and unequivocal zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking, servitude and child labour. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure that modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own business or in any of our supply chains.

We expect the same high standards from all of our contractors, suppliers and other business partners. We will not knowingly work with any organisation or individual that does not share our commitment to eradicating modern slavery and we reserve the right to terminate relationships with any party found to be in breach of this commitment.

Our business and supply chains

Man and Van Eltham provides transport, removals and related services. Our operations rely on a range of suppliers, including vehicle hire and maintenance providers, fuel suppliers, equipment and packaging providers, and occasional labour or subcontracted services. We recognise that there may be modern slavery risks within extended supply chains, particularly where services involve low-paid, temporary or migrant labour.

We are working to identify and assess potential risk areas in our supply chain, focusing on sectors and geographies where workers may be more vulnerable to exploitation. Our objective is to build long-term, transparent relationships with suppliers who uphold fair and safe working conditions and respect human rights.

Supplier standards and audits

All new key suppliers are expected to confirm that they comply with applicable modern slavery and human rights laws. We communicate our zero-tolerance stance to suppliers at the outset of our business relationship and reinforce it through ongoing engagement.

Where proportionate and risk-based, we conduct checks or audits of suppliers to assess their labour practices, working conditions and compliance with relevant legislation and our standards. These may include requests for documented policies, evidence of worker protections and, where appropriate, on-site assessments. If a supplier is unable to demonstrate adequate safeguards against modern slavery, we will work with them to improve standards or, if necessary, discontinue the relationship.

Policies, training and awareness

Our internal policies oppose any form of exploitation and support fair treatment, appropriate pay and safe working conditions. These policies are communicated to staff and contractors engaged by Man and Van Eltham. We aim to raise awareness of modern slavery indicators among our workforce so that concerns can be identified at an early stage.

We encourage staff and contractors to familiarise themselves with this statement and to be alert to signs of abuse or coercion in any working environment they encounter in the course of our operations.

Reporting concerns and whistleblowing

Man and Van Eltham encourages anyone who has concerns about possible modern slavery or human trafficking in our business or supply chains to report them as soon as possible. Concerns may be raised with a manager or senior member of the business, or through any internal reporting channel we establish for ethical concerns.

Reports will be treated seriously and sensitively. No individual who raises a concern in good faith will suffer any detrimental treatment as a result of reporting their suspicion. We will investigate all credible allegations and take appropriate action, which may include notifying relevant authorities, supporting affected individuals and reviewing or terminating supplier relationships.

Continuous improvement and annual review

We recognise that addressing modern slavery is an ongoing process. Man and Van Eltham is committed to continually improving our practices to better identify, prevent and respond to risks of exploitation. We will review this Modern Slavery Statement annually to assess the effectiveness of the steps we have taken and to identify areas for further improvement.

As part of that annual review, we will consider feedback from staff, suppliers and other stakeholders, developments in legislation and guidance, and any incidents or concerns that have arisen during the year. Updated versions of this statement will reflect our progress and any enhanced measures we introduce.

This statement has been approved by the management of Man and Van Eltham and reflects our ongoing commitment to upholding human rights and eliminating modern slavery in all its forms from our business and supply chains.
